Problematic Vehicle: Rules for Stopping During One-Way on Toll Roads
JAKARTA – The implementation of the national one-way traffic engineering scheme during the 2026 Lebaran return flow serves as a crucial step to alleviate vehicle density from Central Java towards Jakarta. This scheme is applied based on increases in vehicle volume, CCTV monitoring, and field reports from officers. Jasa Marga President Director, Rivan A. Purwantono, explained that this policy aims to maintain smooth traffic flow. For context, the national one-way system is enforced at the discretion of the Police starting Tuesday (24/03) at 14:25 WIB, from KM 414 Kalikangkung Toll Gate on the Batang–Semarang section to KM 70 on the Jakarta–Cikampek section. Amid the application of this one-way system, road users are reminded to be more vigilant, especially if experiencing emergencies on the toll road, as vehicle movement space becomes more limited compared to normal conditions. In emergency situations such as vehicle breakdowns or technical issues, drivers must not stop arbitrarily and are required to pull over to the left shoulder or inner shoulder, which is the safest side. “For road users experiencing emergencies, stopping on the right shoulder is prohibited; continue to use the left shoulder/inner shoulder. Obey traffic signs and follow instructions from officers on the ground,” said Rivan. Rivan also emphasised several prohibitions that must be followed during the national one-way implementation, including prohibitions on stopping on the shoulder except in emergencies, not changing lanes suddenly, and maintaining speed within the specified limits. “Stopping on the shoulder is prohibited except in emergencies, changing lanes is prohibited, sudden lane changes are prohibited, and speed limits must be obeyed,” he stated.
