Yes, providing potable water for residents of Jakarta is a
priority for the Jakarta administration in 2001. If it fails to
accomplish this task, I am afraid the residents of Jakarta will
suffer, as they will be extremely thirsty because there will be
very a limited supply of drinking water available from the
current deep wells. Uncontrollably tapping deep wells is harmful
and destructive to the city and its citizens.

On the other hand, the city water company does not seem to
have been very successful in providing anything but groundwater
for residents to drink. There is room for improvement in the
management of the water company, which should be a matter of
primary concern for the city administration. All the people want
from the water company is a sufficient supply of cheap and good
quality potable water.
