Probe of land title case goes on
JAKARTA (JP): Police have pledged to continue their
investigations to complete a dossier of the counterfeiting and
illegal use of documents for the ownership of 6.5 hectares of
land at Kapuk Muara in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
"We don't mean to be slow in the dossier's completion, but due
to technical problems we currently face, it's taking longer than
expected," spokesman to the National Police Brig. Gen. IK Ratta
told reporters yesterday.
The dossier was returned seven months ago by the local
prosecutor's office due to its lack of data.
According to the police spokesman, most of the witnesses have
moved, forcing police to spend extra time finding their new
addresses.
"Their statements are vital to the case," he said.
The ownership documents of the land, legally owned by seven
residents, have been counterfeited by seven other people. At one
stage the seven alleged counterfeiters were put into police
custody for their crime.
The seven alleged counterfeiters were identified only as HR,
Y, DS, U, A, L and LL.
They were released after the prosecutor's office announced
that the data in the dossier, compiled by police, was incomplete.
Ratta insisted that the police have no plans to stop
investigations of the case.
"After we can collected statements from a number people, we
will resubmit the dossier to the prosecutor's office," he
promised.
Ratta refused to comment when asked about the possible
difficulties faced by the police due to two of the key witnesses
also being prominent executives of a private bank.
The two are believed to have played a certain role in the
counterfeiting process and are identified as SS, a director, and
Sut, a commissioner of the bank. (bsr)
