Probe Munir's death
From Media Indonesia
The Institute for Study of Democracy (LKaDe) welcomes the
formation of a team by the National Police to investigate the
death of Munir, rights campaigner and coordinator of the National
Commission on Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras).
Based on the Dutch Forensic Institute's report, a lethal dose
of arsenic was found in the body of Munir following an autopsy.
LKaDe appeals to the police to conduct a professional inquiry
in order to discover the real cause of the suspicious death and
calls for Garuda Indonesia to cooperate in the investigation.
LKaDe also urges that Commission II of the House of
Representatives controls and scrutinizes the police inquiry so as
to safeguard Indonesia's reputation.
