Privatization
Privatization
of education
From Koran Tempo
National Education Day on May 2 was marked by demonstrations
criticizing the government's attempt to shirk its responsibility
for the provision of a nine-year basic education for all
students.
The attempt to privatize education has been legitimized
through a number of rules, such as the National Education Law,
the bill on educational statutory bodies, the draft government
regulation on primary and intermediate education, and the draft
government regulation on compulsory education.
It seems that the government is reluctant to enhance the
intellectual level of Indonesians. It is the government that
should be fully responsible for the introduction of a system of
education that ensures easy public access.
