JAKARTA — The stigma that private universities are always below public universities is slowly fading. In recent years, more private higher education institutions have shown strong competitiveness, both in terms of academics, innovation, and alignment with industry needs.

This shift is also evident from the increasing number of private university graduates succeeding in careers at national and multinational companies. In fact, many private universities are now actively building collaborations with industry, strengthening students’ digital competencies, and offering learning programmes that are more adaptive to technological developments.

Amid this competition, reputation and visibility have become factors that prospective students increasingly consider. It is not just about accreditation, but also how a university is known to the public, active in the digital space, and able to demonstrate its influence in the education sector.

One ranking system often used as a reference is uniRank. uniRank™ is an international higher education portal and search engine featuring reviews and rankings of more than 14,000 officially recognised universities and colleges from around 200 countries.

Based on the uniRank Indonesia 2026 rankings, several private universities have secured highly competitive positions at the national level.
