Private Sector Invited to Establish Gas Infrastructure in Cities
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The government has called on private companies to invest in building infrastructure for gas in the cities. The government will initiate with the basic infrastructure.
“We hope that private companies will join later,” said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro yesterday.
Purnomo said that the government will use the state budget to build such facilities. He admitted, however, that the government’s budget was limited.
To build the infrastructure in Surabaya and Palembang this year alone, the government will need Rp 100 billion, enough for only two districts in each city.
Downstream Oil and Natural Gas Enterprises chief, Tubagus Haryono said the cost for urban gas infrastructure investment for 1.000 household is Rp 48,3 billion. However, this can be much cheaper if the amount of gas from the producers is not calculated. “People don’t use much gas, they use no more than 20 cubic meters per month,” he said yesterday.
