Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government has implemented a work from home (WFH) policy for central and regional civil servants (ASN). This policy takes effect starting tomorrow, Wednesday (1 April 2026).

Meanwhile, for private sector employees, Labour Minister (Menaker) Yassierli will issue a special circular (SE).

“Regarding the circular (SE) for the workplace optimisation programme for the private sector, SOEs, and regional SOEs, I will announce it soon. Insha’Allah tomorrow,” said Yassierli during an online press conference on Tuesday night (31 March 2026).

So, will WFH be applied uniformly to all private sectors?

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto emphasised that this WFH policy excludes business sectors directly related to public services, so they are still required to work from the office.

The sectors exempted from WFH and required to work from the office and in the field include public services, health, security, cleanliness, production, energy, basic necessities, food and beverages, transportation, trade, and logistics.

“The education sector remains face-to-face five days a week, and there are no restrictions on sports events,” explained Airlangga.

“This policy is a government anticipatory step included in the national work culture transformation programme that upholds the concept of efficiency and modernity,” he stated.
