Private First Class Farizal Killed in Israeli Bombardment During Isha Prayer
The death of Private First Class (Praka) Farizal Rhomadhon during a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon has left profound grief. The incident occurred while the deceased was performing Isha prayer in the duty area of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops, or at the guard post near Adchit Al Qusayr, on Sunday (29/3/2026) local time.
Brigade Infantry Commander (Danbrigif) 25/Siwah, Colonel Inf Dimar Bahtera, revealed this chronology during a visit to the mourning house in Ledok, Lendah, Kulon Progo, DIY. “So (the incident happened -Red) during Isha prayer, the individual was performing prayer and there a mortar artillery shell fell beside the mosque,” said Colonel Inf Dimar when interviewed at the mourning house in Ledok, Lendah, Kulon Progo, DIY, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
The mortar attack is suspected to have come from Israeli troops involved in the escalation of conflict in the area. The explosion occurred very close to the worship location and caused Farizal to be killed on the spot.
After the incident, the deceased’s body was evacuated to the East Sector Headquarters (HQ) of UNIFIL. At that location, funeral prayers and tributes from fellow squad members will be conducted.
“It is then planned to be evacuated to a hospital in Beirut, if I am not mistaken. There, a standard autopsy will be carried out at a more complete hospital,” he said.
The autopsy process will also be conducted by the UN side before the repatriation stage to Indonesia. “Well, that (autopsy) might only be possible tomorrow if the conditions are conducive. After that, the repatriation process will be carried out by the UN,” he said.
“The repatriation stage has several stages that must be done by the UN, documents. After that, once the mechanism is sufficient, it will then be flown to Indonesia,” Dimar added.
The planned repatriation of the body will go through transit countries such as Egypt or Jordan, considering the limitations of civilian flights due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East region. Upon arrival in Indonesia, the deceased will receive military honours before being buried in his hometown in Kulon Progo, in accordance with the family’s wishes. However, it is not yet certain when the body will arrive.
“The burial will be here (Kulon Progo Public Cemetery -Red) in accordance with the family’s request. The state honours include a honour ceremony, military funeral honours. And I plan to lead the ceremony. I am directly assigned by the leadership, from the President, from the TNI Commander, from the Army Chief,” he said.
Shots from tanks of the Israeli occupying forces (IDF) were cited as the cause of the death of the TNI soldier, a member of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon. This was revealed from the UN’s preliminary investigation.
The Times of Israel reported that the peacekeeper was killed on Sunday night when an unidentified projectile “exploded at a UNIFIL position near Adchit al Qusayr.”
A UN source later said that the investigation had shown the shot came from an Israeli tank, adding that “tank shell debris had been found” at the site.
