Private First Class A who assaulted an online taxi driver on Puspiptek Road briefly brandished a pistol, but it turned out to be a toy

Jakarta, VIVA – The Army’s Land Forces (TNI AD) has commented on a case involving a soldier identified as Peltu A who allegedly assaulted an online taxi driver on Jalan Raya Puspiptek, Setu District, whose video circulated on social media. It later emerged that the suspect is an active TNI AD serviceman. The incident stemmed from a road dispute following a minor collision. The TNI AD said it moved quickly. Denpom Jaya/1 Tangerang immediately coordinated with the South Tangerang Police and relevant units to follow up the incident. On the evening of Monday, 2 March 2026, the soldier in question was secured. He is currently undergoing interrogation at Madenpom Jaya/1 Tangerang. The Head of the Army Public Information Service (Kadispenad), Brigadier General Donny Pramono, explained that the legal process is underway. “At present, the involved soldier has been secured and is being questioned by Denpom Jaya/1 Tangerang. We assure that the legal process proceeds in accordance with applicable regulations, including a deeper chronology, witness interviews, and collection of evidence,” he said on Wednesday, 6 March 2026. Preliminary investigations indicate the incident began with a vehicular bump leading to an argument. In the circulating video, the suspect is accused of pointing an object resembling a pistol. However, after examination, the object was found to be a wooden toy pistol. The TNI AD emphasises that it will not tolerate actions that erode public trust. The case is now fully under the purview of Denpom Jaya/1 Tangerang for further investigation. “If proven to have committed violations, the individual will be processed firmly according to the law and military discipline. The TNI AD is committed to maintaining public trust and the professionalism of its soldiers through a mechanism of law enforcement that is transparent and accountable,” Donny said. Earlier reports quoted Commander of Military District Command 0510/Tigaraksa, Lieutenant Colonel Infanteri Yudho Setyono, confirming that a soldier identified as Peltu A was involved in assaulting the online taxi driver on Jalan Raya Puspiptek, Setu, whose video went viral on social media. The Dandim noted that the soldier is an active member assigned to Kodim 0510/Tigaraksa. “Indeed there is an individual involved (in the assault),” he said in Tangerang on Tuesday.
