Private entrepreneur falsely claiming police status arrested for assaulting petrol station workers in East Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The perpetrator who assaulted several employees at a public petrol station (SPBU) 3413901 in Cipinang, East Jakarta, has been identified as a private entrepreneur, not a police officer.
“The perpetrator has been arrested and confirmed not to be a member of the National Police. He is currently being processed by investigators from the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Budi also urged the public to approach information circulating on social media wisely and await official clarification from the authorities to avoid misunderstandings.
“We encourage the public to remain calm and not be influenced by unverified information. If they encounter similar incidents or acts of violence, they should immediately report them through the call centre 110 or the nearest police station. Every report will be followed up,” said Budi.
Budi explained the chronology of the incident, which occurred on Sunday (22 February) at around 10.10 pm at the Pertamina petrol station in Cipinang, East Jakarta. It began when a black Toyota Vellfire car attempted to fill up with Pertalite fuel.
“The refusal triggered the emotions of the passengers in the car. The perpetrator then got out and assaulted several petrol station employees,” said Budi.
Budi also said that several employees were beaten, including an employee who tried to intervene. One of the victims then filed a report to the Pulogadung Police Station on Monday (23 February), and the case is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Pulogadung Police Station, East Jakarta Metropolitan Police.
In response, the Internal Affairs Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, together with members of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Pulogadung Police Station, conducted an investigation and clarification.
“As a result, the perpetrator was identified as JMH and confirmed not to be a member of the National Police. The vehicle’s registration number was also not used for its intended purpose,” said Budi.
“The perpetrator was then taken to the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police for further examination,” he said.
Previously, three employees of SPBU 3413901 in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, were allegedly victims of assault by a member of the authorities.
“Yes, that’s right, there are three of our employees who were allegedly assaulted by a member of the authorities,” said one of the staff of SPBU 3413901, Mukhlisin (38), when met at the Cipinang petrol station, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Monday (23 February).
Mukhlisin explained that the incident, which occurred on Sunday (22 February) at around 10 pm, began when a customer came to fill up with Pertalite.
