Jakarta (ANTARA) - Correctional institutions (Lapas) and state detention houses (rutan) throughout the DKI Jakarta region are opening visiting services during Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 for families of inmates celebrating the holiday.

Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections (Kakanwil Ditjenpas) for DKI Jakarta, H. Azhari, stated that the services will be available on the first and second days of Eid.

“So all prisons and detention centres in DKI Jakarta will open visits for two days. It’s called a visiting service to the public,” Azhari said when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday.

He noted that although Eid is a national holiday, the prisons and detention centres are providing these special services so that inmates can gather and celebrate Eid with their beloved families.

The visiting services will open after Eid Prayers on the first day of Eid until noon. On the second day of Eid, they will open from 09:00 WIB.

“Even though it’s a holiday, we are providing time for the public to visit their families,” he said.

He added that the public may bring typical Eid dishes such as opor, Eid cakes (nastar and the like), and drinks to enjoy together with their family members serving sentences in prisons or detention centres.

However, he continued, there are requirements that visitors must comply with. Those coming to visit must be family members of the inmates, proven with identification.

“Terms and conditions apply; clearly, there must be a family relationship. The terms can be seen on the website,” he said.

Azhari stated that all food brought will be checked by officers. Visitors are not allowed to bring prohibited eating utensils or containers, such as knives, forks, spoons, and glass plates.

“You may bring favourite foods, but everything must be checked,” he explained.

The prisons and detention centres are facilitating tents as waiting areas for families of inmates who come to visit.

Azhari added that there are 13 correctional work units in the DKI Jakarta region, three of which are detention centres, all providing Eid visiting services.

Several prisons in Jakarta have been observed setting up tents for Eid visiting services, such as the Cipinang Narcotics Prison, Class I Cipinang Prison, and Class I Cipinang Detention Centre.
