The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas) has stated that the involvement of prisoners in the food security programme is part of their rehabilitation. The programme involves officers, inmates, and the community.

Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto made the statement during a focus group discussion (FGD) on the implementation of the food security programme at the ministry on Tuesday (23/6/2026). Agus said the rehabilitation programme for prisoners is carried out through various methods.

“So it involves officers, inmates, and also the community. I hope the community can accept them again after they undergo rehabilitation in the correctional system,” Agus said during the event.

The programme provides training and work experience for inmates. For the Ministry, it serves as a contribution to the government’s policy of achieving food security.

Agus encouraged all prisons and detention centres to implement the food security programme according to their respective conditions. “This is an implementation of the food security programme as part of rehabilitation steps so that inmates have skills that can be utilised after they return to society,” Agus said.

The former deputy chief of police also opened up opportunities for former prisoners to return to work in the programme. According to Agus, several former prisoners have already returned to assist in mentoring the programme. This is because society has not yet been able to accept the presence of ex-convicts.

“Thank God, from our experience, some of those who have been released have returned to work. We are ready to accommodate them because we indeed need them to become mentors for the inmates who will later join the programme,” Agus said.
