Prisoners lure guards, escape

JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya (JP): Two prisoners from Abepura Prison here escaped after convincing three guards to take them to a nearby brothel.

Prison warden Mashudi said Saturday that Yaman Saiful, 31, and Sangkala, 27, lured the guards with alcohol and the promise of a free "session" with the prostitutes.

The three guards accompanied the prisoners to the Sentani Kiri brothel, 25 kilometers from Jayapura, on Aug. 24.

While the guards were enjoying themselves at the premises the two convicts escaped, Antara reported.

Mashudi said the guards would be dismissed for their negligence.

Yaman and Sangkala are believed to have boarded a flight to Ujungpandang, South Sulawesi, after their escape.

The men were convicted of stealing Rp 56 million (US$ US$18,900) from PT Andatu Jayapura. (mds)
