Prisoners get remission

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: President Soeharto has granted
remission to 322 prisoners in the province.

Semiyono, head of the provincial office of the Ministry of
Justice, told Antara yesterday that 274 prisoners received the
presidential remission and 48 were immediately released because
their jail terms were ended by remission.

"For this year all prisoners have received special remission
in relation with the National Day, on Aug. 17, except the jail
birds," Semiyono added.

He said that compared to last year, there are 68 more
recipients this year.

"Out of the 322 recipients, six are children," he added.

According to Semiyono, the remission can be canceled if they
commit a crime before Aug. 17.

He said South Kalimantan prisons hold 1,002 male, eight female
and six child inmates.

Semiyono said there are no political prisoners. (05)
