Prisoners escape Medan prison

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Police and justice officials will question 25 employees of Tanjung Gusta penitentiary over the recent escape of eleven inmates, Antara reported yesterday.

A spokesman at the local office of the Ministry of Justice, Pardamean Siagian, said seven prisoners escaped on April 28, followed on May 17 by four others.

"If we find out that the escapes were made possible by the negligence of warders, we'll take legal action or impose administrative sanctions on them," Siagian said.

Six people died in March when a riot took place in the penitentiary. (swe)
