Prisoner killed in Cipinang

JAKARTA (JP): A prisoner in the Cipinang penitentiary in East Jakarta was stabbed to death on Friday with a fork.

Head of the East Jakarta police Lt. Col. Miyanto reported on Saturday that the victim, identified as Zulkifli, alias Muzakir, in his 30s, was stabbed in his chest, head and buttocks by his cellmate El Presley Silaban in front of their cell at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

"The incident took place after an apparent misunderstanding between the two," said Miyanto, who refused to go into detail.

He only said that two witnesses had been questioned.

Miyanto said that police investigators are still trying to determine how the weapon was made.

Both the suspect and the victim were in jail on unrelated robbery charges. (bsr)
