Prisoner Caught Having Coffee at Shop, Kendari Detention Centre Head Under Investigation by Directorate General of Corrections
The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Office of Ditjenpas are investigating the corruption convict Supriadi, who went viral after being seen at a coffee shop in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. Ditjenpas will impose sanctions on the involved officers according to the investigation results. Deputy Head of the Cooperation Division of Ditjenpas Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Rika Aprianti, explained that the incident prompted officers to examine all related parties, both inmates and staff at the Kendari Class IIA Detention Centre. The examination is being conducted by a joint team from the Internal Compliance Operational Unit (Sat Ops Patnal) of Ditjenpas and the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Office of Ditjenpas. “If violations are proven, or the extent of the violations committed is determined, whether for the mentioned inmate or the officers, sanctions and punishments will be given in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Rika in a press release in Jakarta on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Rika assured that Ditjenpas does not favour anyone in investigating the case that has stirred public attention. All parties at the Kendari Detention Centre are ensured to be targets of the examination. “Examinations will be conducted starting from the Head of the Detention Centre, the Head of Detention Centre Security, to the officers escorting the mentioned incident. And if violations are proven, action will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations, up to dismissal from position,” said Rika.
