Prison worker may be inmate

BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: A civil servant may become an inmate of the prison where he works, if charges that he slept with a female inmate are proven.

Menggala penitentiary authorities said yesterday they have "strong evidence" that it was Win, 23, who had sexual intercourse with a 25-year-old inmate, Dar, resulting in her pregnancy, Antara news agency reported.

The pregnancy has angered top prison officials, who conducted an intensive week-long investigation, before they finally found a clue to the puzzle.

Dar, a maid who was convicted of kidnapping her employers' baby and stealing their motorcycle, is two months pregnant.

Head of the Lampung chapter of the justice ministry, Soejagoes, said, "The case will also be reported to Minister of Justice Oetojo Oesman."

But because Win has admitted responsibility and expressed willingness to marry Dar, Oetojo Oesman said that, "The case will most likely be closed because he has admitted his offense." (imn)
