Prison riot causes Rp 30m losses
DILI, East Timor: An official said yesterday that the riot at the Bekora Correctional Institution on Tuesday, in which one person was killed and several others injured, caused an estimated Rp 30 million (US$13,129) in losses.
The head of the East Timor office of the ministry of justice, Benny J. Matthaus, was quoted by Antara as saying yesterday that a sentry post, the polyclinic and a few other rooms were damaged in the riot.
Eight inmates escaped during the commotion. One was caught, three surrendered, and the remaining four are still at large.
East Timor police chief Col. Andreas Sugianto has announced that a special team will hunt for the prisoners. (swe)
