Prison escapee wanted

DILI, East Timor: Security authorities in east Timor are still searching for Jose da Costa who escaped the prison in the provincial capital last January.

Benny J. Mataus, chief of the provincial justice ministry office, said here yesterday that security authorities would continue to look for the prisoner who was believed to have been back to his home village in Baucau.

He said that the wanted man should give up because he would certainly be recaptured some times in the future.

Da Costa along with other seven prisoners, who were jailed for their involvement in riots in several places in the province last Jan. Several of the escapees have been recaptured while several others gave up the provincial authorities.

"He will not gain a sentence remission which is given annually if he does not give up," he said as quoted by Antara.(rms)
