Prioritising Credit for SMEs, Anthony Leong to Forge HIPMI-Banking Partnership

Prospective Chairman of BPP HIPMI for 2026-2029, Anthony Leong, has stated that he intends to focus on building strong partnerships with banking institutions across Indonesia to prioritise the distribution of credit to SME actors in the country.

He emphasised this after collecting the registration form for Chairman of BPP HIPMI for the 2026-2029 period at the BPP HIPMI Secretariat, to explain the vision and mission he plans to implement if successfully elected as HIPMI Chairman in this election.

“Our focus is on three things: how to access collaboration, how to access networking, and also access to capital. That’s the common thread,” Anthony said in his statement on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.

He explained that one of his focuses in partnering with the banking sector is to produce a formula or programme that truly addresses the capital needs of business actors in the SME sector.

“Because I haven’t seen that bias yet, and this must be HIPMI’s role going forward. Large entrepreneurs shouldn’t be the only ones with access to capital,” he said.

This has become one of his concerns because Anthony assesses there is an imbalance in capital access for SME sector actors compared to large entrepreneurs.

Currently, large business actors generally already receive various very easy credit facilities from banks.

Therefore, Anthony stressed that opening up easier access to bank capital for SME actors or even medium-sized entrepreneurs is his mission if he succeeds in being elected as Chairman of BPP HIPMI for the 2026-2029 period.

“So, what about medium-sized entrepreneurs? This is also our shared homework. So that medium-sized entrepreneurs and SMEs can also get attention,” Anthony said.

“Don’t let medium-sized entrepreneurs be like the hole in a doughnut, where the top gets it, the bottom gets it, but the medium-sized ones are hollow, completely ignored. This is what we must push forward,” he added.
