Printing kiosk in Jatinegara catches fire, explosions heard
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A printing kiosk in Cipinang Cempedak, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, caught fire on Wednesday afternoon (May 20, 2026). By 6:00 p.m. WIB, the blaze was still burning and several officers from Gulkarmat were continuing to extinguish it. In addition to the firefighters, nearby residents helped by pulling hoses and carrying ladders belonging to the firefighters. Several explosions were heard, believed to have originated from electrical cables or gas cylinders burning. Witness Daniel (20) said the fire is believed to have started at the printing kiosk and quickly spread to other buildings. “So I initially invited a friend to the workshop. When I arrived here, more people came, and suddenly from beside the printing shop someone shouted, ‘Fire, fire!’” Daniel, at the scene, explained. “I saw a short circuit upstairs in the burning building. The cables suddenly caught fire and the flames spread,” he added. “Some people secured belongings; others were helping to extinguish as well.”
