Primaverse expands community-based carbon credit business in Indonesia
Malaysian-based company Primaverse Sdn Bhd has announced plans to expand its carbon credit business development in Indonesia by strengthening collaborations with local communities. This strategy will be implemented through a community-based approach that integrates Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects.
Mohd Hafiz Bin Mohd Jamil, Director of Business Development at Primaverse Sdn Bhd, explained in an official statement in Jakarta on Saturday that the company’s carbon project development relies on forest conservation involving local residents from the planning to the implementation stages. “Our main foundation is ESG projects, as our projects involve forest conservation. We involve local residents, including through education and social development programmes,” said Hafiz.
Hafiz ensured that the company is committed to expanding the economic and social impact of the carbon credit business, particularly through cooperation with local partners in the sectors of education and community empowerment. “God willing, in the future, we will continue to work with local partners, especially in the fields of education and carbon credit business development. Our primary goal is to assist local communities, as our foundation is ESG,” Hafelse stated.
In the environmental sector, Primaverse conducts reforestation programmes using local plant species tailored to the characteristics of the local ecosystem. Additionally, the company is developing community-managed tree nurseries and utilising technologies such as drones and satellite imagery to monitor carbon sequestration.
Regarding the social aspect, local communities are involved in various project stages, ranging from the Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) process and tree planting activities to the management of nurseries. Furthermore, the company organises entrepreneurship and financial literacy training, establishes village carbon cooperatives, and develops the “Tree Adoption” digital programme as part of community empowerment.
In terms of governance, the company implements a reporting system based on mobile applications and blockchain technology to enhance transparency in carbon project management. The company is also establishing village-level institutions to play a role in managing projects at the local level.
In line with this commitment, Primaverse Sdn Bhd successfully received the IDX Channel Anugerah ESG 2025 award, making it the first Malaysian company to receive this award in Indonesia for its implementation of ESG principles and carbon credit business development.
