Primary School Teacher Killed by Former Partner, Perpetrator Dies After Drinking Poison and Petrol

A primary school teacher in Dumai, Riau, Tika Plorentina Simanjuntak (26), has been killed by her former partner. The perpetrator, BM (27), drank poison and petrol when apprehended by police.

BM received hospital treatment after being detained on Thursday, 12 March 2026. BM was pronounced dead this morning.

“The suspect died this morning at 08.06 Western Indonesian Time. He died in hospital after receiving treatment,” said Dumai Police Chief AKBP Angga Herlambang, as cited by detikSumut on Friday, 13 March 2026.

Angga stated that BM attempted suicide whilst fleeing from officers. During his escape, BM consumed poison and petrol.

“The perpetrator attempted to take his own life whilst fleeing by drinking herbicide poison and petrol. That’s why once apprehended, he was immediately taken to hospital yesterday,” said Angga.

Victim Stabbed to Death

The victim Tika was stabbed to death in her rented accommodation. The stabbing is believed to have been motivated by a love triangle.

BM could not accept that the victim had a new partner named David Sitorus (26). BM claimed he was still in a relationship with the victim when he visited her accommodation on Wednesday, 11 March in the afternoon.

The following day, the victim was found dead, covered in blood, with stab wounds across her body. Police confirmed that the victim was a primary school teacher and a class teacher.

“The motive is still being investigated. According to information, it was a love triangle. The victim was a Class 3 teacher at Santo Tarcisius Primary School and was a class teacher,” said Angga yesterday.
