The building of Inpres Primary School (SDI) Ra’ong in Ra’ong Village, Golo Mori District, Komodo Subdistrict, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), collapsed completely on Monday, 9 March 2026 at approximately 05:00 local time. The school building with three classrooms was destroyed by violent winds.

“It was hit by severe winds accompanied by heavy rain and collapsed completely,” said Sukarmin, a teacher at SDI Ra’ong, when contacted for confirmation.

The school building that collapsed was a semi-permanent structure. The school had been built through community self-help efforts by parents of pupils. The school, located not far from Labuan Bajo, serves approximately 60 pupils.

“The collapsed building was much needed by the school and the children as a learning space,” said Sukarmin.

In recent months, the school building had been used for religious activities and as a reading space. Meanwhile, teaching and learning activities have been utilising the school office and library.

“Teaching and learning activities for pupils are being conducted in the school office and library,” explained Sukarmin.
