A State Primary School (SDI) Ra’ong building in Ra’ong Village, Golo Mori District, Komodo District, Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara, has collapsed following severe winds and heavy rainfall.

“The building was flattened to the ground after being struck by strong winds accompanied by heavy rain,” said Sukarmin, a teacher at SDI Ra’ong.

The collapsed school building was a semi-permanent structure constructed through community self-help efforts by parents. The school serves approximately 60 pupils located near Labuan Bajo.

“The building that collapsed was sorely needed by the school and children as a learning space,” said Sukarmin.

In recent months, the building had been used for religious activities and served as a reading space. Meanwhile, teaching and learning activities have been conducted in the school office and library.

“Student teaching and learning activities are being carried out in the school office and library spaces,” explained Sukarmin.
