Prihati Pujowaskito: The Military Doctor Now Leading BPJS Kesehatan

Jakarta, VIVA – From the roster of the newly appointed Board of Supervisors and Board of Directors of BPJS Kesehatan for the 2026–2031 term, Prihati Pujowaskito has been selected by President Prabowo Subianto as President Director of the public body responsible for providing national health insurance.

Born in Solo on 29 March 1967, Prihati has been immersed in the medical field since a young age. He initially studied medicine at Sebelas Maret University, graduating in 1991, before completing a master's degree at Airlangga University in 2007.

He subsequently obtained a second master's degree in Hospital Management from the Gotong Royong School of Economics, graduating in 2015, and then pursued a law degree at Borobudur University, completing it in 2022.

To deepen his expertise, he also undertook seven months of interventional cardiology training in 2024.

Prihati's career in healthcare began as a Medical Officer with a Kopassus Battalion, a role he held from May 1995 to July 2002. Beyond clinical practice, he also ventured into academia as a lecturer.

He served as Dean of the Faculty of Military Medicine at the Defence University from 2023 to 2025, and has been active as a Lecturer in Cardiac Disease at the same institution since August 2023.

In the academic sphere, he has served as a Lecturer in Internal Medicine at Jenderal Ahmad Yani University since January 2008 to the present.

Since June 2019, he has been entrusted as a member of the Presidential Medical Expert Panel of the Republic of Indonesia.

In clinical practice, he has held the position of Consultant Interventional Coronary Cardiologist at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto since August 2018.

He then served as Director of Medical Support Services at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto from July 2021 to June 2023, having previously led as Head of the Cardiology Department at the same hospital from August 2018 to June 2021.

Prior to his posting at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto, he served as Head of the Cardiology Department at RSAD Dustira from July 2014 to July 2018, and before that as Head of the Internal Medicine Department at RSAD Dustira from February 2011 to June 2014.

He also served as Head of the Cardiology Sub-Department at RSAD Dustira from April 2007 to March 2011.

He has published two written works related to social security, the first entitled "Restorative Justice in the Resolution of Medical Malpractice Disputes in Indonesia", written as a dissertation in 2022.
