Priests asked to study
KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Most of the graduates of Arta Wacana Christian University here are sent to villages not only to preach, but to also study the development of the community, Antara quoted Rector A.A. Yewangoe as saying Saturday.
Announcing the college's plan to commemorate its 25th anniversary this Thursday, Yewangoe said the priests would not only speak about God. "Theology could be left behind if it focuses on God only, and fails to speak about humans," he said.
Since its establishment in 1971, the college has educated 1,075 students, with 10 to 15 percent of them failing to graduate.
The college is facing financial difficulties at the moment.
The provincial government has just decided to reduce its annual aid of Rp 10 million (US$ 4,376) to Rp 6 million, while the two churches that founded the college have also been tardy in giving them financial assistance. (swe)
