Prices of several iPhone models rise following iPhone 18 launch
Apple is reported to have raised the prices of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air, and iPhone 16 shortly after launching the iPhone 18 series.
According to a report by Gizmochina on Friday (11/9), the prices of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air, and iPhone 16 in the United States have each increased by approximately US$100 (around Rp1.7 million) from previous levels.
In the US market, the base price of the iPhone 17 has risen to US$899 (approx. Rp15.8 million), the iPhone 17e to US$699 (approx. Rp12.3 million), the iPhone Air to US$1,099 (approx. Rp19.3 million), and the 128GB variant of the iPhone 16 to US$799 (approx. Rp17 million).
Price increases have also occurred in the Indian market, where the iPhone 17 is now marketed at an initial price of 99,900 rupees (approx. Rp18.4 million), the iPhone Air is sold for 149,900 rupees (approx. Rp27.6 million), the iPhone 17e is priced at 79,900 rupees (approx. Rp14.7 million), and the iPhone 16 starts at 89,900 rupees (approx. Rp16.5 million).
These price adjustments occurred after Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, while simultaneously ceasing direct sales of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The company’s change in marketing strategy following the iPhone 18 launch is seen as reflecting the impact of rising component costs on the smartphone market.
The price increases for several iPhone models are linked to the limited supply of memory chips, caused by high demand from data centres for artificial intelligence.
Apple has previously also raised the prices of Mac, iPad, and HomePod products.
Nevertheless, customers can still purchase Apple devices at lower prices through various mobile operator offers and trade-in programmes.
