Prices of Chicken and Beef Rise Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026 in East Jakarta Markets
Jakarta — Prices of chicken and beef have begun rising in several traditional markets across East Jakarta ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.
Currently, chicken is being sold at approximately IDR 50,000 per kilogramme, whilst beef is priced between IDR 145,000 and IDR 150,000 per kilogramme.
Traders have experienced these price increases since the beginning of Ramadan, coinciding with heightened consumer shopping activity at traditional markets.
A chicken trader at Kramat Jati Market in East Jakarta, Ahmad (44), stated that chicken prices previously hovered around IDR 45,000 per kilogramme before the fasting month.
“Prices started rising from the beginning of Ramadan. Now it’s around IDR 50,000 per kilogramme, whereas previously it was IDR 45,000,” Ahmad said on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
“Customers are becoming busier. Usually, as it gets closer to Eid, customer traffic increases even more,” he added.
Ahmad further noted that price changes are also influenced by supply conditions from suppliers who adjust to market demand. However, he assessed that price increases remain relatively controlled as long as distribution from suppliers continues smoothly.
According to him, prices that previously ranged between IDR 130,000 and IDR 135,000 per kilogramme have now risen to approximately IDR 145,000 and IDR 150,000 per kilogramme.
“Usually as it approaches Eid, especially in the week before it, prices can rise further due to increased demand,” said Jaka.
He noted that consumer interest remains high despite prices beginning to climb. Many customers purchase meat for household needs and culinary businesses.
“Usually because people cook a lot for Eid dishes, such as chicken curry, rendang, and semur,” he explained.
