Prices of Basic Foodstuffs in Gunungkidul Rise Ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026, Local Government Prepares Market Operations
The Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) of the Yogyakarta Special Region, together with the Regent of Gunungkidul, Endah Subekti Kuntari Ningsih, conducted intensive monitoring of the availability and prices of basic foodstuffs in several strategic locations on Wednesday (February 25, 2026). The monitoring covered the Semin Market, the LPG Agency of PT Gasindo Kerto Raharjo, and the Gapoktan Maguru in Pulutan, Wonosari.
Regent Endah stated that the series of religious holidays, starting from Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Chinese New Year, and Easter, triggered an increase in public demand, which impacted price fluctuations in the market.
Based on direct monitoring with traders, several commodities have begun to show an upward trend. Basic food groups such as eggs, chilies, sugar, and cooking oil are the main focus due to their significant price movements.
In addition to food, TPID also ensured the smooth distribution of energy. At the LPG Agency of PT Gasindo Kerto Raharjo, distribution was monitored to be stable with a volume of 2,240 tubes per day (resulting from 560 tubes x 4 LO) to supply 102 distribution points in the Gunungkidul region.
Meanwhile, in the rice sector, Gapoktan Maguru in Pulutan reported a milling capacity of 1.5 tons per day. The selling price of rice from Gapoktan to traders is currently in the range of IDR 12,500 to IDR 13,000 per kilogram.
In response to this price increase trend, the Gunungkidul Regency Government has prepared strategic intervention scenarios. The plan has also been officially reported to the Governor of the Yogyakarta Special Region, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X.
Regent Endah affirmed that they have rescheduled market operations ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Previously, intervention measures for sugar, oil, and rice commodities have been consistently carried out up to the sixth round.
In response to the aspirations of traders at the Semin Market regarding the addition of quotas for the “Inflation Control Shops,” which currently number 40 units, the Regent stated that they will immediately coordinate technically. “We will immediately discuss the technical aspects with the relevant heads of departments to expand the reach of the inflation control shops,” she concluded.
