Prices Above HPP, Farmers' Paddy Flooded by Out-of-Town Buyers
Farmers in Indramayu Regency are entering the harvest period for the 2025/2026 rendeng planting season. They can now enjoy high paddy prices above the government’s purchase price (HPP). Chairman of the Farmers and Fishermen’s Contact Network (KTNA) in Indramayu Regency, Sutatang, stated that harvesting is currently underway in several areas, including Gantar, Haurgeulis, Kroya, Gabuswetan, Terisi, Pasekan sub-districts, as well as parts of Anjatan and Bongas sub-districts. Sutatang noted that in this early harvest phase, farmers can benefit from high paddy prices. For instance, Kebo variety paddy is priced at Rp 7,200 per kilogram at the farmer level, while Ciherang and similar varieties range from Rp 7,500 to Rp 7,800 per kilogram. “The price is above the GKP (harvested dry paddy) HPP of Rp 6,500 per kilogram,” Sutatang told Republika on Tuesday (14/4/2026). Sutatang predicted that paddy prices will continue to rise even as the harvested area expands, since there is no simultaneous harvest in this rendeng planting season due to non-synchronous planting times. “This year, there is no simultaneous harvest. So, the GKP paddy price is likely to stay above Rp 7,000 per kilogram,” he said. Sutatang added that farmers who are harvesting are choosing to sell their paddy immediately rather than storing it. He mentioned that, besides local buyers in Indramayu, farmers’ paddy is also being sought after by buyers from outside the area. “Buyers are coming in from Subang and Karawang Regencies,” Sutatang emphasised.
