Price of Pertamax Turbo Rises, Filling Toyota Alphard's Fuel Tank Can Reach Millions

PT Pertamina (Persero) has adjusted the prices of non-subsidised fuels starting 18 April 2024. This increase is particularly noticeable for high-octane petrol such as Pertamax Turbo. In the Jakarta region, the price of Pertamax Turbo has risen from Rp 13,100 per litre to Rp 19,400 per litre, representing an increase of Rp 6,300 per litre. One model recommended to use Pertamax Turbo is the Toyota Alphard, a premium MPV often dubbed the “starter pack for the wealthy”. Currently, the Alphard is available in two engine variants: a 2.5-litre petrol version (engine code 2AR-FE) and a hybrid version (A25A-FXS). So, how much must be prepared to fill the tank from empty to full? With the new price of Rp 19,400 per litre, the cost for a full fill-up from empty is 75 litres x Rp 19,400, amounting to Rp 1,455,000. Previously, with the old price of Rp 13,100 per litre, the full fill-up cost only Rp 982,500. This means that each full fill-up now requires Alphard petrol owners to spend an additional Rp 472,500, or nearly half a million rupiah. For the hybrid variant, with the new price, the full fill-up cost from empty is 65 litres x Rp 19,400, amounting to Rp 1,261,000. For information, Pertamax Turbo is a petrol fuel with an octane rating (Research Octane Number/RON) of 98. This fuel is designed for vehicles with high engine compression ratios to produce more optimal performance, more complete combustion, and to help maintain engine cleanliness.
