JAKARTA — The President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, Eagle Zhao, has pledged that the first deliveries of the BYD M6 DM (Dual Mode) will begin in June 2026, even though the official price has not yet been finalised. Zhao explained that the delay in announcing the price stems from the company still finalising the pricing structure while also giving consumers time to better understand the new DM technology, which is being introduced to Indonesia for the first time.

‘Because this is BYD’s first DM technology to arrive in Indonesia, we want to encourage more people to try and experience it first,’ he said in Jakarta on Monday, 18 May 2026.

In a separate statement, BYD Indonesia’s Head of Marketing, PR & Government, Luther Pandjaitan, said that the price for the M6 DM would be announced soon, before the order period opens.

‘Basically, if people want to place an order, they need to know the price. We are targeting delivery in June 2026, which means in that window we should be able to provide the price,’ he explained.

To date, BYD has not opened Vehicle Purchase Orders (VPOs). However, M6 DM units are already available at the dealer network and can be tested by consumers.

‘The product has already been showcased, meaning it is ready to be on the streets of Jakarta. It is only a matter of time, and we also want to have this in Indonesian households’ garages as soon as possible,’ said Luther.

BYD also emphasised that the M6 DM is specifically prepared for the Indonesian market, although details on the country of origin for the units to be shipped to customers have not been disclosed as they adjust their manufacturing strategy.

Before the distribution phase, BYD expanded its DM technology introduction through test-drive programmes across the dealer network. This step is intended to help consumers understand the characteristics of the plug-in hybrid, which combines an electric motor as the primary mover with a petrol engine as a supplementary source of efficiency and range.
