Previously Focused on Premium Segment, Is Alva Targeting the Budget Motorcycle Market?
Since its initial entry into the Indonesian electric two-wheeler market, PT Ilectra Motor Group (IMG), the manufacturer of Alva electric motorcycles, has been known for consistently targeting the premium segment. This approach was evident in the launch of their early models aimed at enthusiasts and high-end consumers, such as the One, priced around Rp 30 million, and the Cervo, which sits in the Rp 40 million range.
However, recent trends suggest a shift in Alva’s strategic direction. This raises the question of whether Alva is moving away from its premium image to pursue the mass market. Addressing this, Purbaya Yudha, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alva, did not deny that market absorption during Alva’s early stages was dominated by premium models like the Cervo, One, and One XP.
“But regarding the N3, we have specifically created this model as a daily utility vehicle for everyday use,” said Purbaya when met in Jakarta on Monday (18/05/2026).
Alva’s strategy to penetrate a wider market segment is supported by a battery subscription scheme, which Alva refers to as ‘Bebas Pas’ (specifically for the N3). By reducing the cost of the largest component upfront, the motorcycle’s unit price becomes much more competitive for the general public.
“Combined with our ‘Bebas’ programme, where users can subscribe to the battery instead of purchasing it, the N3 becomes a suitable choice for many people in Indonesia in terms of affordability,” Purbaya added.
Through this battery subscription scheme, consumers are no longer burdened by long-term battery maintenance costs. The rental fees offered are adjusted to the consumer’s daily usage profile, with rates ranging from Rp 125,000 to approximately Rp 200,000 per month.
Purbaya emphasised that this move does not mean Alva is abandoning its identity, but rather providing more flexible options. Consumers can now choose to maintain high performance in the premium class with the Cervo, or switch to economical daily utility with the Alva N3.
