Preventing Violence in Pesantren: Al-Hamidiyah Depok's Proactive Measures

Pondok Pesantren (Ponpes) Al-Hamidiyah Depok has affirmed its commitment to creating a safe educational environment free from all forms of violence. This commitment has been realised through various policies implemented since 2023, even before the launch of the National Safe and Comfortable Space for Children Movement. The commitment was reiterated during the launch of the National Safe and Comfortable Space for Children Movement at Ponpes Al-Hamidiyah, Depok, on Sunday (12/7/2026). The pesantren was even entrusted to be the location for the launch of the government-initiated national movement. Head of Pesantren Al-Hamidiyah, Prof Oman Faturrahman, stated that the institution welcomes the movement as it aligns with steps the pesantren has built over the past few years. According to him, efforts to create a safe educational environment have been Al-Hamidiyah’s commitment from the start. ‘We fully support this movement because it has been our commitment from the beginning. Since 2023, hopefully, this can be an inspiration for pesantren throughout Indonesia,’ Prof Oman said during his speech at the launch of the National Safe and Comfortable Space for Children Movement at Ponpes Al-Hamidiyah, Depok, on Sunday (12/7/2026). Prof Oman explained that since 2023, the Al-Hamidiyah Pesantren Foundation has issued a Director’s Regulation concerning Guidelines for the Prevention and Handling of Violence within the foundation’s environment. The regulation applies to all pesantren residents, both students and teaching staff. ‘The signatory is not me as the Head of Caregiver, but directly the Foundation’s Director as a form of institutional commitment,’ he said. Through these guidelines, Pesantren Al-Hamidiyah prohibits all forms of violence. The ban covers verbal, physical, sexual, and digital violence.
