Preventing Floods in Jabodetabek with Biopori
Deputy Minister of Environment/Deputy Head of the Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH), Diaz Hendropriyono, has called on the public to participate in preventing floods in Jabodetabek by providing aid in the form of biopori units and biopori hole tools to 10 villages in Cisarua Subdistrict. This effort was carried out during an event commemorating World Water Day organised by KLH/BPLH with the theme Water and Gender in Cisarua Subdistrict, Bogor Regency. “Today, we are handing over aid in the form of biopori units and biopori hole tools to 10 villages, with 50 biopori units each, to prevent flooding,” Diaz stated in his remarks on Monday (6/4). Diaz explained that the installation of biopori in the area is necessary as Cisarua Subdistrict is part of the upstream area of the Ciliwung River Basin (DAS), which requires maintaining water balance. He encouraged the public to plant biopori pipe units in their respective households while also planting trees. “Ideally, every house should have a biopori unit so that there is no pooling water, and water can directly seep into the ground, creating water balance and reducing flood risks. So, it is best for every house to plant one tree and a biopori hole,” he said. Diaz added that maintaining water balance is important given the very limited amount of clean water. “The Earth is 71% water, but not all of that 71% can be used; only 2% can be used, and most of that 2% is located in the North and South Poles,” he concluded.
