Preventing Corruption in Free Nutritious Meal Programme: Prabowo to Increase Budget for KPK and Attorney General's Office

President Prabowo Subianto will increase the budgets of law enforcement agencies, namely the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), to strengthen the implementation of the free nutritious meal programme (MBG). Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the budget increase is a necessary consequence to prevent irregularities and corruption within President Prabowo’s priority programme. “If that later becomes part of a consequence, we think there is no problem. Because it is better for us to increase the budget to prevent acts of corruption. The choice is better like that,” Prasetyo Hadi said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 4 June 2026. He said Prabowo re-emphasised the importance of oversight of the MBG programme implemented by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Beyond MBG, Prabowo has also instructed law enforcement officers to monitor the implementation of all government programmes. “Indeed, our spirit is truly to try as hard as possible to fight this culture of corruption,” he said. He added that President Prabowo routinely receives reports from various law enforcement agencies regarding the progress of programmes across all ministries and institutions. However, the routine evaluation and monitoring carried out by Prabowo does not necessarily indicate the existence of misappropriation and corruption. “The meaning of monitoring does not always point to an incident or an action. It is more about programmes that must be immediately executed by the respective ministries,” he said. Previously, Prabowo requested the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK), the KPK, and the Attorney General’s Office to strengthen oversight and take action against any irregularities in the MBG programme without exception. Prabowo even pledged to meet the needs of supervisory bodies and law enforcement officers to ensure there is no misappropriation and corruption in the MBG programme, which is deemed important for the nation.
