Prestigious Awards Received by Rachmat Gobel During His Lifetime, Including International Recognition

The passing of Rachmat Gobel at the age of 63 has left a deep sense of loss in Indonesia’s industrial, business, and political spheres. Known as an entrepreneur, former Minister of Trade, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), he is remembered not only for his role in building national industry but also for the various awards he achieved throughout his career. Unlike many other business figures, Rachmat Gobel was not known for actively pursuing awards. However, the prestigious recognitions he received hold significant value as they were granted based on tangible contributions to the industrial world, productivity, and service to the country. One of the most prestigious accolades he received was the APO Regional Award 2011 from the Japan-based Asian Productivity Organization (APO). The award was presented in April 2011 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, making him the first Indonesian to receive this honour. The award is given only every five years to individuals deemed to have made a major contribution to productivity enhancement in the Asia-Pacific region. This recognition further cemented his reputation as an influential industrial figure, not only in Indonesia but across Asia. Another prestigious honour was the Bintang Mahaputera Adipradana, one of the highest civilian awards from the Government of Indonesia. It was conferred by President Joko Widodo in August 2024 to officials and figures considered to have rendered extraordinary service to the nation and state, with Rachmat Gobel receiving it in his capacity as Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI. The Bintang Mahaputera Adipradana is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional merit in various fields contributing to the progress, welfare, and prosperity of Indonesia. Although the number of personal awards he received may be few, both carry immense weight, reflecting his significant contributions to industry and the nation.
