Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung agreed to enhance strategic cooperation from the economic sector, defence to artificial intelligence (AI) during a bilateral meeting at the Presidential Blue House in Seoul, South Korea, on Wednesday.

“The enhancement of our bilateral relations to a special comprehensive strategic partnership, along with the resolution of several key agreements, reflects a deep and binding shared vision between our two countries,” said President Prabowo, quoted from the Press, Media, and Information Bureau (BPMI) of the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

The agreement marks the strengthening of bilateral relations, now entering a new chapter through the status of a special comprehensive strategic partnership. This step serves as a historic milestone that solidifies the foundation for long-term cooperation between Jakarta and Seoul amid global dynamics.

President Prabowo stated that the discussion with President Lee was highly productive and successfully formulated several strategic understandings. He assessed that both nations possess strong modalities to continue synergising, particularly based on shared historical journeys in achieving independence.

“History shows that both countries have similarities, and we also have common interests. Both countries had to struggle hard to achieve independence,” said President Prabowo.

On the same occasion, President Lee Jae Myung detailed that the scope of cooperation covers technological innovation and defence industry sectors. President Lee emphasised that the expansion of this collaboration is based on a very high level of trust between the two parties.

In the economic sector, South Korea is committed to encouraging the participation of its national companies in strategic projects in Indonesia. President Lee specifically appreciated the Indonesian government’s support for the continuity of the investment climate for corporations from the Land of Ginseng.

“I also conveyed deep appreciation to President Prabowo for his concern towards companies from South Korea,” said President Lee.

Regarding the defence sector, both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in military manufacturing industries, including shipyard development. This cooperation aims to build a more resilient maritime strength to address security challenges in the region.

Additionally, both countries agreed to integrate Indonesia’s big data with South Korea’s artificial intelligence technology. This cutting-edge technological collaboration is directed towards finding solutions to various humanitarian challenges and accelerating digital transformation in both countries.

“President Prabowo and I share the view that the happiness and prosperity of the people are the top priorities in our respective governments,” said President Lee.
