President's anti-corruption drive

From Koran Tempo

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's move to fight corruption offers hope for tougher action against graft practices. He has started with the formation of a coordinating team for corruption eradication.

The step has received a mixed reaction from the community, but at least it reflects the government's strong commitment. So we should not be overly skeptical or pessimistic because this measure has a positive aim.

The team is meant as a response to the weak system of law enforcement and is designed to help overcome constraints in dealing with cases of corruption, which have caused slow progress in some antigraft areas.

Comprising personnel of the police, the prosecutor's office and the Financial and Development Control Agency, the team will facilitate better coordination between law enforcement institutions and officials.

Therefore, this team will be of assistance to the President in resolving the constraints that restrict this endeavor, because corruption eradication drive will be different when the President himself is directly in control.
