Presidential Staff Office Visits Abuse Victim, Assures State Support and Demands Maximum Punishment
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential Chief of Staff (Kastaf) General (Ret.) TNI Dudung Abdurachman has assured that the state is present to assist YTR, a victim of confinement and abuse, and has demanded that the perpetrator be punished as severely as possible if found guilty. According to a statement received from the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) in Jakarta on Friday, Dudung visited the victim on Thursday evening at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung, where he saw the victim’s condition firsthand and met with the family. “I saw her directly and met with her family, and I conveyed that the state is present and deeply cares about her treatment and her future,” said the Presidential Chief of Staff. “On behalf of the state, we are deeply concerned about this incident. This should be a lesson for all of us to be more caring. If there are suspicious or unusual things in the neighbourhood, report them immediately to the relevant authorities so that this does not happen outside of supervision,” Dudung added.
During the visit, Dudung received a direct report from the Director of RSHS that the medical expenses for victims of abuse against women and children are not covered by BPJS Kesehatan. Responding to this obstacle, the Kastaf immediately contacted the relevant parties on the spot. “I received a direct report from the Director of Hasan Sadikin that indeed, abuse against women and children is not covered by BPJS. I immediately called the BPJS Director, and he responded positively, even noting that he had previously been monitoring this issue,” he explained. The handling of medical costs and victim protection will be further coordinated, with the procedure to be reported to the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), fully supported by the Ministry of Health and the Governor of West Java.
Dudung expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to the Indonesian National Police, particularly the West Java Regional Police, for their swift action in arresting the perpetrator. He also commended the RSHS medical team for their rapid emergency response in treating YTR. Regarding the legal process, Dudung stated that he fully supports the victim’s father and sibling’s demand for justice. “I convey, and this includes from the family (YTR’s father and sibling), that the perpetrator must be processed with the heaviest possible punishment. Personally, frankly, seeing her condition, this is beyond the limits of humanity, so it is very fitting that he be punished as severely as possible according to the applicable legal procedures,” he said.
Previously, the West Java Regional Police had named Taufik Hidayat as a suspect in the confinement and abuse case against YTR. The series of abuses allegedly took place over approximately three years in a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency. The prolonged violence resulted in the victim suffering multiple severe injuries and physical impacts, including impaired vision, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally.
