Presidential Staff Office Verifies Progress of Jakarta MRT Phase 2A, Targets Monas Operation Next Year
The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) has conducted a field verification visit to the MRT Jakarta Phase 2A construction project, assessing progress on the national strategic project and monitoring the development of mass urban transportation in the DKI Jakarta region.
KSP Chief General (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman stated that the visit was to oversee the continuation of the MRT line from Bundaran HI to Stasiun Kota. “Today, I am reviewing a national strategic programme, the construction of the MRT extension from Bundaran HI to Kota Station. Several matters have been addressed by the KSP with MRT management. The obstacles have been resolved, and now it is just a matter of proceeding directly with the work process,” Dudung said.
The series of activities began with a direct inspection of the Blok M Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area. The review focused on the readiness of the Blok M mixed-use development as a centre for transport integration and economic activity. Following the Blok M inspection, Dudung and his delegation travelled by MRT to Bundaran HI Station to continue the main agenda: reviewing the North-South Corridor Phase 2A construction project (Bundaran HI-Kota).
At the Phase 2A construction site, the KSP Chief observed the underground construction progress and confirmed that previous cross-agency strategic obstacles had been successfully resolved through active coordination between the KSP and MRT Jakarta management. “I went down to a depth of 18 metres and saw that this work is being carried out by the sons and daughters of Indonesia,” Dudung remarked at the project site. He noted that the resulting infrastructure quality meets international standards. “It is extraordinary; the quality is on par with Japan. The trains are even better, and this will certainly be very beneficial, providing ease for the public in using transport facilities,” he added.
Regarding the nearest operational target, Dudung is optimistic that the public will be able to use the connecting line to the Monas area by next year. “Operations will begin next year. Next year, operations will reach Monas, just up to Monas,” he clarified. As of April 2026, the approximately 5.8-kilometre project from Bundaran HI to Kota Tua is showing a positive development trend. Regular monitoring is being conducted to ensure the Segment 1 operational target by December 2027 and full operations by February 2030 remain on schedule.
Beyond physical transport, the KSP is also pushing for the optimisation of non-farebox revenue through the acceleration of the Blok M Mixed-Use commercial area as a national TOD showcase, integrated in accordance with DKI Jakarta Regional Regulation No. 11 of 2024. Dudung reaffirmed the KSP’s commitment to serving as a bridge for debottlenecking issues for national strategic projects should field obstacles arise. “The recommendation from KSP to MRT is to adhere to the timeline. The personnel deployed are professional. If there are any obstacles, report them to us immediately so we can coordinate with the relevant ministries,” Dudung concluded.
