Presidential Staff Office pushes for stronger governance of the corrections system at Palembang Women's Prison

Palembang, South Sumatra — The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) of the Republic of Indonesia is pushing for strengthened governance, optimised public service delivery, and the realisation of inmates’ rights at Palembang Women’s Prison, Class IIA. ‘What we have seen demonstrates good governance and a tangible commitment to supporting national strategic programmes in the fields of law enforcement and the rights of inmates,’ said Acting Deputy Head I of the Presidential Staff Office, Heru Kreshna Reza, during his visit to Palembang Prison on Thursday. He emphasised that the KSP is committed to ensuring law enforcement and inmate development within the prison conform to the national vision of progress, integrity, and transparency. The step is realised through direct evaluation of programme effectiveness at vital facilities. The KSP team, which was also attended by Senior Expert Anthony Winza Probowo and Professional James Baron, mapped success indicators for prison management across three main focuses: cleanliness and order, ensuring living conditions meet humane regulatory standards. Then service innovation, by measuring the efficiency of the block security system and integrated service spaces. Finally productive training, by monitoring inmates’ self-reliance in workshop work to support social integration. Through this review, the KSP provides a number of recommendations and evaluation points to be used by the prison administration for future programme development. The collaboration between the presidency and the correctional institution is hoped to accelerate standardisation of accountable public services. Head of Palembang Women’s Prison, Class IIA, Desi Andriyani, stated that the technical input from the KSP team forms the basis for her officers to consistently safeguard security integrity and raise the quality of inmate training.
