Presidential Sacrificial Cattle Worth Nearly Rp100 Billion Distributed Nationwide
Deputy State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro stated that President Prabowo Subianto will distribute 1,098 sacrificial cattle for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriyah (2026), funded by the state budget (APBN) at an estimated cost of approximately Rp100 billion. ‘The President has agreed to provide 1,098 sacrificial cattle. The budget comes from the APBN through the presidential community assistance allocation. Prices vary by region, so we adjust accordingly. The total expenditure is roughly Rp100 billion,’ Juri said at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday (26 May).
The cattle will be distributed across all provinces, regencies, and cities in Indonesia, as well as educational institutions, Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), religious leaders, and community figures. Of these, 598 cattle are allocated to regional governments across 38 provinces and 514 regencies and cities.
Juri explained that the number of cattle exceeds the number of recipient areas because some regions lack cattle meeting the presidential standard weight. ‘The presidential standard requires cattle weighing between 800 kilograms and 1.3 tonnes,’ he said.
Forty-six regions were reported to lack cattle meeting this standard, hence the government will provide two cattle in certain areas to compensate.
Additionally, 500 cattle are allocated to social and religious institutions, including pesantren, educational bodies, and community and religious leaders.
The cattle are premium breeds including Simmental, Limousin, Peranakan Ongole, Brahman, Angus, Bali cattle, Exotic Hybrid (EH), Belgian Blue, and Charolais. All have animal health certificates and meet Islamic sacrificial requirements.
‘These are premium-quality cattle with exceptional standards,’ Juri added.
He noted all cattle are sourced from local breeders through coordination between the State Secretariat Ministry, Agriculture Ministry, regional livestock offices, and the Indonesian Cattle Breeders and Feeders Association (APPSI). The government hopes the annual program will stimulate domestic livestock productivity.
‘President Prabowo sees this as an opportunity to develop Indonesia’s livestock industry independently and meet domestic meat demand,’ he said.
For the President’s sacrifice at Istiqlal Mosque, a 1.3-tonne Simmental bull has been prepared.
