Presidential Palace Reveals Prabowo-Megawati Meeting: Discusses Geopolitics
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that many topics were discussed during the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesia’s fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri on 19 March 2026. “The meeting lasted nearly two hours and covered a great deal,” Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
According to Prasetyo, Prabowo and Megawati exchanged views on various issues. During the meeting, Megawati shared her experiences as a national leader. “After all, Ibu Mega has served as vice president and president,” Prasetyo remarked.
This Gerindra Party politician confirmed that one of the topics discussed related to the recently heated geopolitical issues, though he did not elaborate on the specifics. Prasetyo noted that each leadership era presents different challenges. “As a leader, it is certainly beneficial to exchange input and share experiences for the progress of our nation and country,” he said.
President Prabowo met with PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta at the end of Ramadan on Thursday, 19 March 2026. In one of the photos shared by the Cabinet Secretariat, Prabowo is seen holding Megawati’s hand. Prabowo appeared to guide the woman who was once his running mate in the 2009 presidential election as they ascended the steps of Merdeka Palace.
Megawati wore batik-patterned attire with blue motifs during the meeting. Meanwhile, Prabowo donned a khaki safari suit complete with a presidential pin.
During her visit, Megawati was accompanied by her daughter, who is also the Chair of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani. Prabowo was joined by Gerindra’s Daily Chairman and Deputy Chair of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. Prabowo’s son, Didit Hediprasetyo, also attended the meeting with his father.
PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto described the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati as a gathering of old friends, conducted in a cordial manner. According to Hasto, Megawati and Prabowo discussed various topics, from domestic matters to geopolitics. Hasto stated that Megawati shared her experiences as president with Prabowo.
Hasto noted that Megawati has extensive experience in resolving crises. Megawati, he said, emphasised the importance of a sense of priority and a sense of urgency in government during her discussion with Prabowo.
