Presidential Palace Reveals Content of Prabowo-Megawati Meeting: Sharing Experiences

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Presidential Palace has briefly revealed the content of President Prabowo Subianto’s conversation during his meeting with Indonesia’s fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon (19/3/2026). State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the two national figures exchanged experiences for the progress of the Indonesian nation. In particular, Megawati previously served as Vice President of Indonesia from October 1999 to July 2001 and as President of Indonesia from July 2001 to 20 October. “Of course, they have experiences. Although we all know that each era and time has different challenges,” Prasetyo continued. In addition, they discussed the global geopolitical situation. According to Prasetyo, many matters were discussed in the meeting that lasted around two hours. “There were many, yes. The meeting lasted almost two hours, with much discussion and exchange of views,” he said. Previously reported, President Prabowo held a meeting with Indonesia’s fifth President and General Chair of PDI-P Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta last Thursday. “On the 29th day of Ramadan ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, I received Indonesia’s fifth President, Ibu Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace,” Prabowo said via his post on the Instagram account @prabowo on the same day. “This meeting continues the rapport among national leaders,” he stated. From Prabowo’s post, the meeting was attended by House of Representatives Speaker and Deputy Chair of PDI-P Puan Maharani, as well as Deputy House of Representatives Speaker and Daily Chair of Gerindra Party Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. In the meeting, the four conversed in full familiarity. There was also a moment when Prabowo held Megawati’s hand while entering and exiting the palace door.
