Presidential Palace Responds to the Detention of Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, by the KPK
The government respects the legal process regarding the designation of the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Silmy Karim, as a suspect, who is currently being detained by the KPK. “Of course, the government respects the legal process being carried out by law enforcement officials, both the prosecutor’s office and the KPK,” said Pras via a short message on Thursday (June 4th).
Pras stated that regarding the positions held by those undergoing legal proceedings, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with laws and regulations.
In addition, he has also communicated with the Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto, to ensure that this incident does not disrupt services to the public.
Pras said that he felt very concerned in the past two days, given that several state officials are facing legal issues.
He also reminded all parties, especially state officials, to improve themselves and stay away from corrupt practices.
Today, Silmy Karim was detained by the KPK after surrendering in connection with an operation in West Jakarta.
The detention was carried out after undergoing questioning for approximately 10 hours.
The KPK previously revealed that the alleged criminal act committed by Silmy Karim occurred while he was serving as Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for the 2023-2024 period.
Silmy was appointed as Director General of Immigration on January 4, 2023, and his term ended on October 21, 2024, coinciding with his appointment as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections.
“Director General of Immigration 2023-2024,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo at his office when confirmed about the time the alleged criminal act occurred on Wednesday (June 3rd) evening.
Budi has not yet been able to provide information regarding the articles that will be used against the parties involved in the Operation to Catch Red-Handed (OTT) in Jakarta, West Java, and Bali on June 2-3, 2026.
“Regarding the construction of the charges, we will wait because tonight there will be an exposé (case presentation). Whether the charges will be under Article 12e on extortion, bribery, or other forms of acceptance, we will wait and see. We will provide an update later,” said Budi.
