Presidential Palace Expresses Condolences Over Central Sulawesi Earthquake

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, representing the government and the Presidential Palace, has expressed deep condolences over the magnitude 6.7 earthquake that struck Central Sulawesi. The quake, which occurred on Tuesday, 16 June 2026, resulted in one fatality, three serious injuries, 73 minor injuries, and affected 5,784 residents. “We convey our deepest sympathies for the earthquake in Palu yesterday, which caused one death and several people to be hospitalised,” Prasetyo Hadi stated in Hambalang, Bogor, on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. He added that the government has coordinated with Central Sulawesi Governor Anwar Hafid to ensure all post-disaster handling can be carried out optimally. “This morning we also coordinated with various parties and with the Governor of Central Sulawesi to ensure all handling can be implemented as best as possible,” he said. Prasetyo also requested that the provincial government provide the public with the latest information to prevent panic and maintain vigilance in anticipation of aftershocks. The Central Sulawesi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded that 841 houses were damaged by the tectonic earthquake. The Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Central Sulawesi, Andi Sembiring, reported that Sigi Regency suffered the most significant damage, with 800 houses affected, comprising 720 lightly damaged, 68 moderately damaged, and 12 heavily damaged. In addition to structural damage, BPBD confirmed one fatality, 13 serious injuries, and 63 minor injuries. The deceased was from Ampera Village in Palolo District, Sigi Regency, while two residents in Palu City sustained minor injuries. In Sigi Regency, minor injuries were reported in several villages: 21 in Bora Village, Sigi Kota District; 22 in Uwenuni Village, Palolo District; 16 in Kamarora A and three in Kamarora B, Nokilalaki District; and one in Sibalaya Barat Village, Tanambulava District.
